Nobody Gets Out Alive

About Shelly Shoultes

Shelly Shoultes is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner who works in cardiac care, where these decisions get made.

The show comes from one idea that turns out to be hard to live by: how well we live matters as much as how long we live, especially at the end. It is about the right to say, “I’ve had a full life, and I don’t want to be kept going at any cost.”

Why this show

Most of us will do almost anything to avoid talking about dying, right up until the moment we can’t avoid it anymore. By then the decisions are often made in a hospital hallway, by people who are tired, scared and unsure.

This show is about making them sooner, calmer, and on purpose. It is not about giving up. It is not about telling anyone what to choose. And it is not medical advice. It is about honest conversation, about dignity, and about the difference between care that helps a person live and treatment that only delays dying.
